What Are Kingsdown Mattresses?
Kingsdown mattresses are made by hand which is part of the reason they are considered a luxury mattress. The other thing that makes them luxurious is the fact that they are made with high-quality materials. The company uses scientific research to design personalized support systems to deliver optimal ergonomic support for its customers. The science they put into the production of their mattresses is called Body Science Technology. Whether you are a side sleeper or a back sleeper, have lower back pain or joint pain, Kingsdown says it makes a personalized mattress that will be ideal for your specific needs. You can determine which mattress is right for you by checking out the specifications below, but they also have a test-bed system called bedMatch. BedMatch will actually create a product suggestion list based on your exact body analysis. You fill out a short survey and then lay on a test-bed for 3 minutes. You can find a bedMATCH location on the Kingsdown website, but they are available at most third-party retail stores that sell Kingsdown mattresses.
Kingsdown Mattress Collections
Kingsdown has seven mattress collections whose features vary along with their price. The company makes two “Intelligent” mattresses which feature adjustable air pockets for different levels of support and five innerspring/hybrid mattresses. Below is all the detailed information you’ll need for a comprehensive Kingsdown mattress review.
Intelligent Mattresses
The two collections that feature “intelligent” technology are Body Perfect and Sleep Smart Air. Both collections use air pocket technology to deliver support. They either contain “pro-active air” technology which intuitively adjusts the air pockets while you sleep or “active air” which can be manually adjusted using the provided controls. The Body Perfect collection has the pro-active air technology which will automatically adjust while you sleep to correct alignment and provide ideal support and pressure relief. It comes with a tablet and a custom app. The app gives you a daily summary of essential sleep statistics and sleep tips so that you can ensure you’re getting the best rest possible. The Sleep Smart Air mattress has six air pockets that can be adjusted to increase or decrease firmness and provide ideal pressure relief and support. The air pockets are adjusted using an app and which also controls the specialized power base.
Innerspring Mattresses
The four innerspring mattress collections available are Passions, Prime, Sleep to Live, and Vintage. Although Kingsdown refers to these as innerspring mattresses, they are actually hybrid mattresses. Hybrid mattresses have both innerspring coils as well as latex or memory foam.Kingsdown mattress collections have various key features unique to each mattress. Some of these features are airflow channels, gel, high coil count, ideal temperature control, personalized support, and natural materials. The Passions collection is a pillowtop mattress and is their top of the line mattress. It has the most features including:
- CoolActive memory foam; cooling gel absorbs body heat while airflow channels enhance breathability
- Trizone, individually wrapped coils contour to the body, provide personalized individual support, and reduce motion transfer
- Multi-level support system with foam layers topped with resilient micro-coils that deliver body-conforming support and deep down comfort
- High-density foam on all sides for full edge-to-edge support with airflow channels to allow air to circulate freely
- Fresh comfort quilting made from gel fibers and a silk/wool blend to help maintain a cooler body temperature
The Prime collection is the more economical version of the Passions mattress. It is still high-quality but has fewer features than the Passions collection. The price, however, is far more economical. So if you’re looking for great features without the high price tag, then you’d be better off with a Prime than a Passions.
- Trizone, individually wrapped coils contour to the body, provide personalized individual support, and reduce motion transfer
- Multi-level support system with foam layers topped with resilient micro-coils that deliver body-conforming support and deep down comfort
- Fresh comfort quilting made from gel fibers to help maintain a cooler body temperature
- Reinforced perimeter coils (rather than HD foam) prevent “roll-off” and edge sagging
- Gel-infused memory foam lumbar layer delivers support where it’s needed most while helping maintain an ideal body temperature
- Quilt top with gel fibers to help regulate body temperature (lacks the silk/wool blend)
The Sleep to Live collection was explicitly designed to work with the bedMatch diagnostic system. It comes in three series which offer various features such as:
- Individually wrapped precision coils provide the optimized support recommended for your body by bedMATCH™
- High-density foam on all sides for edge support with airflow channels
- Gel-infused memory foam lumbar layer offers support where it’s needed most while helping maintain an ideal body temperature
- Dual layer support system designed to keep the body properly supported across 5 to 7 anatomic zones
- Graphite latex layer for pressure relief and comfort
- Quilted top made from gel fibers and a silk/wool blend to help maintain ideal body temperature
If you want a mattress that has plenty of natural fibers, then the Vintage collection by Kingsdown may be the right choice for you. It contains natural fibers that allow for better airflow and temperature regulation, but be warned; it comes with a hefty price tag.
- Latex foam layers enhance pressure relief and maximize supportive comfort
- Airflow technology promotes air circulation and breathability
- Trizone, individually wrapped coils contour to the body, provide personalized individual support, and reduce motion transfer
- Tufted damask top which also contains 100% pure cotton,
- Joma wool, genuine horse hair, and alpaca wool to increase airflow and regulate body temperature
- Gel fibers in mattress top also promote cooling and body temperature regulation
Memory Foam
The My Side collection is the only memory foam mattress currently offered by Kingsdown although it does also have an innerspring coil support system. It is a branch off of the Sleep to Live collection and is designed to work with the bedMatch diagnostic system. Like all Kingsdown mattresses, its features focus on coolness, airflow, and body conforming support.
- Trizone, individually wrapped coils contour to the body, provide personalized individual support, and reduce motion transfer
- High-density foam on all sides for full edge-to-edge support with airflow channels to allow air to circulate freely
- Cooling gel-infused memory foam layer provides conforming support and cooling benefits
- Coolwave foam layer offers better airflow and pressure relief
- Contour-cut gel pad draws heat away from the body and provides pressure distribution
The significant difference between the Sleep to Live and the My Side is that the My Side collection has dual comfort technology, meaning the sleeper can individually customize each side of the bed.

Pricing
Kingsdown does not sell directly to the public and offers little information about the products’ specifications on their website. Instead, they sell to third-party businesses such as online and local furniture or mattress stores. The stores set pricing and list individual mattress specifications. That said, it can be challenging to locate specific Kingsdown collections for sale because sometimes sellers change the product name for marketing purposes. Also, despite an extensive search, we were unable to find a single store selling the BodyPerfect or Sleep Smart Air intelligent mattresses. We did find one article which referred to them as the Intuitive and the Progeny respectively, but we were unable to find any mattresses being sold by those names either. Neither could we find the My Side mattress for sale anywhere. Not including the mattresses discussed above, the most expensive mattress by Kingsdown is the Vintage collection. It starts at $1,100 for a twin size and tops out at $6,035 for a King. The average price for a queen size bed for the other collections starts at $1,000. Here is the average cost of a queen size Kingsdown mattress by collection.

The Right Mattress for Me?
For most, these mattresses are above average in terms of support including above average edge support. They are also very good at keeping you cool while you sleep. They are suitable for side, back, or stomach sleepers.Sadly, customers don’t rate these mattresses well when it comes to durability. Most customers find that the bed breaks down within five or six years. This defect leads to an overall lower than average satisfaction rating from customers. Most companies have normal wear and tear threshold. Based on customer reviews, Kingsdown doesn’t have a very accommodating threshold. That said, the 10-year Kingsdown warranty does say it covers 1”-1 1/2” sagging. It does not include body impressions and does not explicitly mention bunching. It is hard to determine which of their mattresses are the best because they often change the names and mattresses they offer. They are difficult to find except at very particular retailers, and customer reviews aren’t very good. Also, product specifications are especially hard to find. Overall, we give Kingsdown mattresses a 3-star rating. Hopefully, this Kingsdown mattress review provided you with everything you need to know before purchasing.
